Kiran Sherkhane is based in Hubli, North Karnataka. His paintings have a huge influence on North Karnataka culture. Though life has offered many constraints to him with physical and emotional challenges, his paintings are very optimistic and energetic. Far from being depressed they are in fact motivating and offers the viewers his positive way of looking at life in a blessed way and with a smile and this gesture and feeling one gets even in his soft and sober colour palette.Kiran's paintings speak volumes about his perceptions as an artist, and how his perceptions and identity intersect. The colours and forms provide insights into the role of his arts in his identity formation and his visual interaction. With this emerging focus on individual experience comes an emphasis on himself and his art identity. The woman in Kiran's paintings is an affirmative model that encompasses positive social identities, both individual and collective for people facing constraints and challenges in their lifestyle and life experiences. They are great metaphors that play an important role in the progression of his identity as an artist over time. The creative drawing that involves both woman and cow depicts his thought process of how the human footprint is increasingly invading nature and other forms of life being threatened. Yet amidst all the constraints and challenging situations, Kiran is not discouraged and doesn’t consider it as a hindrance to follow his passion. This great optimistic view can be seen and felt in his paintings.
