Ballavpur II

  Woodcut

My inspiration comes from nature and landscapes and the changes they have gone through, in a way I want them to reflect in my works. I have come from Rangia to Santiniketan, and both of them have a rural setting. Particularly, I used to visit places that have an ambience close to nature, to understand how we negotiate ourselves in nature. Sometimes, I also tried to accumulate the changing landscape of Santiniketan with the rural landscapes and vast fields. They push me to recall certain nostalgic memories as well which also become a part of my present landscape. I maintain certain metaphors while making the composition. In my work, there is an assemblage with garment motifs and elements of urban construction. I try to explore the human animal-relationship and how I manage myself in society as a collective self. Human being have this tendency to look into themselves, I want to explore this subjectivity. My woodcut prints comprise of the landscapes, exploring the multi-block process using local varieties of wood found in and around Santiniketan. I have also applied the varying texture of wood in my works as a part of the composition.
