Somu Desai, who grew up in a farming family in Valsad District, the biggest industrial area in Asia, has observed how industrialization has affected agriculture. Agriculture is in decline as a result of pollution, climate change, and labour issues brought on by industries. Valsad, which was once renowned for its abundant mango cropping, is now converting agricultural lands into non-agricultural areas and turning the same farms into industrial areas, which is what has caused the emergence of industries. The works of Somu provide evidence for and answers to issues relating to the replacement of the agricultural sector by industries and its decline.
